Safeguarding.

I have a current enhanced DBS.

I am also insured through the Independent Society of Musician.

Working with Children and Young People

When working with students under the age of 18, appropriate professional boundaries are maintained at all times.

Where appropriate:

  • Initial tuition arrangements are made with a parent or guardian.

  • Parents or guardians are kept informed about tuition arrangements.

  • Communication with students remains professional and relates to their education or agreed activities.

  • Professional communication channels (including WhatsApp) are used rather than personal social-media accounts.

  • Online lessons take place through an agreed online platform.

  • Students are treated with respect and encouraged to learn in a safe and supportive environment.

Online Tuition

For online tuition, students should participate from a suitable environment using an appropriate device and internet connection.

Parents or guardians of students under 18 should be aware of when online lessons are taking place and how their child will access them.

Lessons will not normally be recorded. If there is a reason for a lesson to be recorded, this will only take place with appropriate prior consent.

Safeguarding Concerns

Any safeguarding concern or disclosure will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.

Where there is a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child or young person, appropriate safeguarding procedures will be followed. Information may need to be shared with a parent or guardian, school, safeguarding professional or relevant statutory authority where this is necessary to protect a child or young person.

Confidentiality cannot be promised where there is a safeguarding concern.

If there is reason to believe that a child or young person is at immediate risk of harm, the appropriate safeguarding or emergency services will be contacted.

Prevent

I am aware of the importance of recognising and responding appropriately to concerns that a young person may be vulnerable to radicalisation or extremist influence.

Any such concerns will be treated as a safeguarding matter and handled in accordance with appropriate safeguarding procedures.

Concerns About the Tutor

If a safeguarding concern or allegation relates to me as the tutor, you do not need to raise the matter with me first.

Parents, guardians or other individuals may contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for advice about concerns or allegations relating to an adult who works with children.

Contact details for the relevant LADO can be obtained from the safeguarding or children's services section of your local authority's website.
